This may be a small UI oversight. 
When you execute a very long text string in the search bar, click into the text in order to highlight all and start typing a new search… you can still see the previous search query floating above the active search/text bar. Which is usually hiding behind the active search because when it’s a smaller text string. 

A cleaner view would hide or cover the previous search string.
