As we can embed many images and give them unique names once they are pasted in the cards, is there any plan to have an Image directory of embedded images? Is this something we already have that I can’t find?

A lot of the images that we use are something we throw together in paint and aren’t saved in the computer unless they are GIF files so they can embed properly. This is because there are usually an image per step in each card. However, if we were to have an image directory it would be nice to filter out the images by the titles given while editing the cards to find them quickly and add them to other cards.

Hi @Nolan Pelletier ! Thanks for your question.  Guru does not have an image directory and as of now that’s not something on our roadmap.

Here’s a tip I can provide that might help you find the image you’re looking for a little faster: try filtering in the card manager for cards that have an image on them.  This will give you a smaller subset of cards to look through.

To do this:

  1. Go to the Card Manager on the left navigation panel
  2. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the Filter by Attribute panel on the right
  3. Select File Attachments and File Type Is
  4. In the textbox you’ll want to use one of the following for filtering for images:
    • image/png
    • image/jpeg
    • image/gif

Again, while this is NOT a directory, this is an alternative you could use to speed up your process.  I am going to ask my colleague to convert this question to Feedback so it can be added to our Feedback Queue.

Really interesting scenario, Nolan! I can really relate to managing a screenshots in documentation and having to swap them out frequently with a rapidly changing product. Unfortunately, solving for this isn’t on Guru’s product roadmap, so we have to mark this idea as “won’t do”.

Molly has shared a great workaround for finding Guru Cards with attached image files. I can also recommend researching digital asset management (DAM) platforms. A DAM will allow you to create that directory or catalog, search, and organize images effectively. It would be ideal if the product has a “replace” image feature that only replaces what the image file looks like and doesn’t break the image embed link elsewhere (such as a Guru Card).

I hope some of this info is helpful and thanks again for asking!

OpenWon't Do

I’d like to add a vote for putting this on the Guru roadmap. We have *many* images and it’s a time intensive process to manage them within the app. It would make Guru much more usable to have an image repository rather than an internal workaround or an external app that has to play nicely with Guru.
