will guru slash commands ever work in Slack threads?

Hey Siobhan! We've heard this request before (and I'll relay this to our product team so we can count your vote 😉)
One workaround I'd suggest is: if you paste a card link in a Slack thread, Guru will recognize that link and will unfurl the link in the thread like so:
https://app.getguru.com/card/cE6q9jLi/Process-for-Inviting-Someone-to-the-Community
ah but the searching for the card won't work in a thread? kind of defeats the purpose if i have to get the card link first 😉
oh interesting!
if you search for a card using /guru, view the card, and then right-click the title of the card, you can copy that link to paste it into a thread. but if you're looking to do a search within a thread, i'd use "@guru" + your search terms. however, you can only post a card with /guru or "@guru" in a channel. the card URL is a workaround :slightlysmilingface:
np! makes sense thanks!!
That's a helpful workaround! Thanks!

To follow up on this, unfortunately this is a limitation in Slack right now. When they offer thread support for apps we'll be all over it!
thanks! i'm surprised giphy finally works in threads so hopefully they'll get around to apps soon. cheers!

@Siobhan this has historically been one of our most common requests, but unfortunately, it is out of our control.

Slack still does not support using Slash Commands in threads, as noted in the red “limitations” callout in this part of their API documentation: https://api.slack.com/interactivity/slash-commands

For those who have seen Slash Commands like /giphy work in threads, it looks like a special exception was made there, but in general, Slack is going to push its partners and users to use app shortcuts instead.

We are consistently monitoring this feature request, however, and will absolutely update this thread if and when they decide to enable this functionality.

So you can add cards from threads, but you cannot search from within the thread. In several of our SMEs Slack channels, using thread for questions is a common practice to keep the conversations organized. Not having the option to search Guru on threads discourages our SMEs from using it.

@Mirna Lessinger do you mean that you can add cards using the app shortcut within threads, or using slash command?

Here’s an example of a Slack app that is successfully responding to user questions via threaded replies: https://www.moveworks.com/insights/introducing-channel-resolver-for-slack

Slash commands are not being used in this case, which may be the solution to this problem. Emoji reactions, for example, could be used to trigger a threaded reply!
