Does everyone in a Slack Channel need a Guru login to ask a question?

Hi everyone,

I am on the Guru trial now with the hopes of rolling it our to sales and CS teams at the end of the month. A question has come up regarding the Slack integration:

If Guru is added to a Slack channel (ex: Sales-help), does everyone need to be a paid user in Guru in order to interact with channel by asking questions and viewing answers?

Thanks!

Hi @Jenny Morse! 👋 Speaking broadly, to get the most value out of the workflow and the feedback loops Guru’s Slack integration enables, we always recommend giving the contributors of knowledge and consumers of knowledge seats in both Slack and Guru.

More specifically, to activate Guru’s beta Answers feature when asking a question in Slack, the question asker must be a Guru user. If the question is asked in a channel, everyone in that channel (regardless of whether or not they are a Guru user) will be able to see Guru’s suggested answer. So it’s both asking the question and the steps after the question (escalating to an expert, searching Guru, creating or updating a Card within Slack, viewing Guru Cards as sources, etc.) that make it important to ensure the team members are users in both Slack and Guru. Hope this helps!
