When you create a card in Guru and assign it to a collection, it looks like the collection list displays in the order of creation. We're early in our journey and are currently working toward having our non-SMEs create cards in a specific collection and then the SMEs edit & move to its appropriate place. Having the collection dropdown display in alpha order so we can call this collection "All Cards Go Here!" or something to push it to the top of the list would be helpful for us

As a workaround, could you create a template to be used for all new cards and specify the Default Collection in that template?
We do a version of this in our Collection for a board that all cards created with the generic template are put on, called CE Cards to be Reviewed. I then review and move them into their applicable boards within our Collection, but I think this could work at the Collection level too!

That's a good idea, and will definitely help for when someone's making a card in the app! I now realize I neglected to mention that the dropdown I was referring to is when you create a card using the Guru app in Slack

Good call @aberman ! Also, @amanda633 do your non-SMEs have author access to all Collections? If you only want them to author cards in one Collection, could you maybe change their Collection permissions to Read Only on all Collections except the one you want them to author cards in? This way, they'd only see the one Collection when they get to the dropdown I think.
We're still new & getting things sorted, so all groups have author access to relevant collections. Since we're trying out this SME route, it makes perfect sense to give them read permissions only on everything. I think we'll give try, thank you!

Awesome! Thanks for raising the question, don't hesitate to come back and ask about anything else you're curious about!
