"It'd be great if I could click a button that creates a Guru index card out of board groups and card titles like this" - @Shona Fenner

it would also be amazing to generate TOCs without needing to use anchor links markdown. it gets a bit tedious and not everyone is familiar with it so it can get messed pretty easily, if it's part of a template.

Hi all,

I’m Sandy, a PM for card creation and editing on the product team here at Guru. Thanks for your feedback! I would love to understand a little bit more:

@Shona Fenner I know the screenshot above is Callie’s, but let’s use that for an example. The “Guru 101 - Index” card lists all the sections and cards within the “Guru” board as, respectively, headers. and card links. If I’m understanding that correctly, I have two questions for you:

  1. Are you also wanting an index card at the board group level, like “All Teams”, where there are headers for boards (e.g., Guru, Slack, Pendo, etc.), headers for sections (e.g., All Guru Users, Authors & Admins, etc.), and card links for section-level cards?
  2. The left 2 panels listing board groups + boards, then sections + cards, are, in a way, an index. Can you elaborate on why the index card is easier for you and your users to navigate?

@Siobhan For Table of Contents, what anchors links do you include in the card today? i.e., are they all the headers from within the card (as opposed to links to other cards)? Does that include all Header levels 1-3?

Timing-wise, I’m finalizing our roadmap for the second half of 2021 and will be sharing an update in Product Updates around late August. Addressing content organization, especially for long-form cards is something that is part of our plans for cards. Currently, we're working on a major upgrade of our Editor, which will form the foundation for this work going forward and then we'll be working to add these types of long-form capabilities.

That said, I’m:

  • Updating this post title to something a little bit more “use case” oriented to identify the problem that needs to be solved rather than as an explicit feature request.
  • Moving this post to “Accepted” status, but please keep adding votes and feedback.

We'll reach out as we start to do research. Thanks!

@Sandy Tran Hi! Answers are below:

  1. You could slice and dice this a few ways. Ideally, there would be a way to auto-generate a list of card links for a Board OR Board Group. Also, the user would be able to add to or edit that list (add other card links from different boards or sources). The use case we have is to put eeeeverything we have for our customer-facing teams for a specific feature into one “Index Card”, from product documentation, to marketing assets, to support processes.
  2. The groups, boards and sections make for a great start! I think the magic is in combining materials from elsewhere in Guru and other sources too!

Is this still an accepted idea?
